State budget deliberations at impasse; Ohio has first interim budget in 18 years
At press time, Ohio's budget stalemate has forced the legislature to pass its first interim budget in 18 years. A seven-day budget, funding the state at 70% of prior year's levels, was signed by Gov. Strickland on June 30, the last day of FY 2009.
Tax preparer regulation is priority for U.S. Taxpayer Advocate
National Taxpayer Advocate Nina E. Olson identified regulation and oversight of federal tax return preparers as a priority for the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate in her report to Congress.
FASB Codification launched July 1 as official single source of authoritative nongovernmental U.S. GAAP OSCPA provides exclusive members-only webinar series exclusively for OSCPA members
Effective July 1, the FASB Accounting Standards Codification became the single source of authoritative nongovernmental U.S. GAAP. The Codification will be effective for interim and annual periods ending after Sept. 15, 2009. The Ohio Society is hosting a four-part, two-hour weekly FASB Accounting Standards Codification webinar series for members-only beginning July 16.
IRS proposing federal standards for tax return preparers
The IRS will be proposing a comprehensive set of recommendations to ensure uniform and high standards of conduct for tax preparers. Among the most significant recommendations is a new model for the regulation of tax return preparers.
